The Skills Gap

Europe wants much more wind energy to boost its energy security and ensure its industrial competitiveness.

Global Wind Day 2025

Europe’s wind workforce is set to grow to 600,000 people by 2030, up from 370,000 today. This comes to show the huge growth and job creation potential of wind energy. But hiring more than 200,000 additional people over just 6 years will be challenging. As an industry, we need to close this skills gap. This means working closer with schools and universities, scaling up vocational training and reskilling programs, setting up retention programs and much more.

But above all, it requires us to raise awareness of the diverse and exciting job opportunities in wind energy. Wind jobs are still under the radar. Our industry has been slow to embrace digital storytelling and social media.

Global Wind Day is a moment to change that. A moment to bring wind energy to life and make it more accessible. For Global Wind Day 2025 we want new generations and new audiences to get inspired to pursue a career in wind.

91% of Gen Z are on Instagram, 86% of them are on TikTok, and many use these platforms for news, inspiration, and discovery. Let’s take Global Wind Day 2025 onto those platforms together.

What makes us hopeful is that Gen Z is climate-conscious and career-driven:

  • 73% are concerned about climate change
  • 65% say environmental impact influences their career choices

How to engage with future talent:

  • Leverage your team: Encourage your employees to share their personal journeys – how they got into wind, what they do, and why it matters. No elaborate production or corporate language. Encourage them to be their authentic selves!
  • Create compelling content: Use high-quality images, behind-the-scenes videos, and “day in the life” stories. This kind of content connects with younger audiences and builds curiosity. And again: authenticity is key here!
  • Showcase diversity: Many people still think that wind energy is all about mechanical engineering. It’s so much more than that. From engineers to communicators, technicians to analysts – there’s no one type of wind worker. Let’s highlight the range of people and paths within the sector together.
